Celebrities are strange creatures. You would think that, with their friends’ and colleagues’ mugshots appearing in tabloids every other day, they would learn to keep themselves out of trouble when in Vegas.
They don’t, of course. Not that anyone should really mind, because crazy stories of celebrity arrests in Sin City can keep us entertained for hours. These are some of the more shocking stories to come out of the world’s gambling capital.
Peter Hernandez, who goes by the stage name Bruno Mars, was arrested in a bathroom at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel in 2010. The cops nabbed him for being in possession of 2.6g of cocaine.
True to celebrity form, Mars denied ever using drugs. Like, ever. In his whole life. To his credit, he manned up to the charges, and pleaded guilty. The singer was sentenced by a Clark County judge to a $2,000 fine, community service amounting to 200 hours, drug counselling, and a year’s probation.
In 2011, Motley Crew frontman – Vince Neil was arrested for disorderly conduct at the Las Vegas Hilton hotel’s Shimmer Cabaret. The singer was accused of being mean to his ex-girlfriend Alicia Jacobs, and jabbing her on the shoulder with his finger.
Neil was also accused of pointing his finger and shouting naughty words at Jacobs’ companions, Patricia McCrone and journalist John Katsilometes. Gosh, what a bad, bad man.
Neil made a plea agreement, and had to a pay a fine of $1000. The prosecutors upheld their side of the bargain, and for what was presumably nothing more than small change to the rocker and confessing that he behaved like a brat in public; the additional charges of battery and domestic violence were dropped – just like magic.

Walking, talking fashion doll and all-around ditz Paris Hilton is no stranger to handcuffs, one way or another. Just one of her many arrests took place in Vegas in 2010, when she was in Sin City with one of her many now-ex boyfriends.
The socialite, hotel empire heiress, reality TV star, businesswoman, and unsuccessful singer and Cy Waits were allegedly in a Cadillac parked outside the Wynn Las Vegas. A passing police officer suspected he smelled cannabis smoke coming from the vehicle and asked to search it and its occupants. While the officer went about his duty, a bag of cocaine allegedly tumbled out of Hilton’s purse, and the couple was promptly arrested for drug possession.
Hilton being Hilton, the whole episode ended with a bargain that saw her plead guilty to misdemeanour charges of possession, and for interfering with an officer’s duty. She had to perform community service for 200 hours, undergo drug counselling, and pay a fine of $2000. Waits pleaded no contest to the charges of driving while under the influence of cannabis, and was sentenced to pay fines and attend DUI school. In exchange for his no contest plea, other charges were dismissed.
Why do you think celebrities cannot seem to resist the urge to commit offences that could get them arrested while in Sin City?
