It sure must suck being a celebrity. You have to deal with having millions of dollars, live in obscenely luxurious mansions, drive snazzy sports cars and take regular holidays in the most beautiful locations on the planet. Figuring out how to spend all this money is no small task, but it seems like getting married and then divorced helps quite a few celebs scale down their fortune.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are currently engaging in a public, ongoing custody battle over their six children. The two have a fortune of $500 million between them, and are in the process ironing out the details of who-gets-what-and-how-much.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard also raised eyebrows when their ill-fated marriage ended in a $7 million divorce settlement, which Heard then went and donated to charity.
Amazingly, these 2 celeb divorces are not the most expensive; we took a closer look at the more outrageous ones that have rocked Hollywood over the years…
Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy
The interesting thing about Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy is that it seems to have been a genuinely levelheaded divorce. Perceptions are that all celebrity divorces are reduced to mad cash grabs, plate throwing, and other such clichés. But in this case, the exact opposite is true.
The two first got hitched back in 1989, early on in Jordan’s career as a professional basketball player. But, they filed for divorce in 2002. Against all odds, however, the couple remained together until 2016 in an effort to make the marriage work.
Upon the divorce eventually being finalised, it was days after the couple had been spotted amicably attending their son’s basketball game. A lawyer stated that a mutual and amicable divorce had been reached, with a settlement of $168 million.

Robert Johnson and Sheila Crump
Johnson established BET, or Black Entertainment Television, in 1980. Though he and Sheila had already been married since 1969, the two decided to divorce in 2002, after it was revealed that Johnson had been involved in an apparently vague number of affairs. One had gone on for three years, while “at least one other” had been acknowledged. How many that is in total is anyone’s guess.
Given that BET was sold for a reported $3 billion, it is no surprise that the settlement amount came to a rather gobsmacking $400 million.
Rupert Murdoch and Anna Torv
The best for last, or the worst for last; depending on how you look at it, is the divorce between media mogul Rupert Murdoch and Anna Torv. Brace yourself, because this one may just make you want to fall over. After 32 years of marriage Murdoch filed for divorce. His ex-wife stated in an interview that she made efforts to save the marriage, but Murdoch would hear none of it. Upon the divorce being finalised, the settlement amount came to a whopping $1.7 billion. Of this amount $110 million was in upfront cash.
That best is yet to come. After 17 days of being a free man, Murdoch married 30-year-old Wendi Deng. He is 37 years older than her, for those doing the maths. Of course, divorce with Wendi was filed for in 2013. However, a little research into the life of Wendi Deng shows that relationships with men many years her senior are common. One the other hand, Deng would have been the fourth wife of Rupert Murdoch. So, who the predator was in this situation really is up for debate. But you can bet your bottom dollar that this time around, Rupert had an iron clad prenup in place!
